Aloo Mattar


  • 1 Cup Peas (can be frozen or fresh)
  • 2 Medium Potatoes (diced bite size)
  • 1 Large Onion
  • 4 Pips Garlic
  • 1 Inch Ginger
  • 2 Stalks Coriander
  • 2 Fresh red chillies
  • 1 Tomato (cut into 2 pieces)
  • 1 teaspoon Curry Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • Water
  • Oil
  • Salt (to taste)


  1. Grind finely the onions, garlic, ginger, coriander leaves and red chillies.
  2. Heat up a heavy pan with oil. Add in the blended ingredients on low heat and cook till fragrant. Increase heat and cook for 15 minutes, adding in turmeric powder, curry powder and cumin powder.
  3. Add in the tomato and salt. Add water to cook the ingredients thoroughly. Add in the potatoes and cover for 15 minutes.
  4. Once potatoes are halfway cooked,add in the peas. If fresh peas are used, cook for 20 minutes. If frozen peas are used, it takes lesser time.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve with rice, papad or rotis.
